My family has always enjoyed playing sports together. We have played volleyball, badminton and golf. Within the last few years, however, my family has started playing a game called pickleball and it is by far the easiest to learn and the most fun to play! Pickleball is a sport that incorporates many elements of tennis, ping-pong and badminton into a game for people of all ages. It was invented in 1965 by three dads whose kids were bored during summer vacation. Today, everyone from grandparents to grade-schoolers are enjoying it.

Pickleball is played with a special type of whiffle ball and a wood, plastic, or composite paddle. It’s played on a 20x44 foot court with a 35 inch tall net. Many city and county recreation centers now have indoor and outdoor courts, as well as equipment to rent.

If you or your family is looking for a new activity to try out this summer, consider picking up a paddle and taking a swing at pickleball!
